State Forestry Institution “Ostrovets Forestry” was formed on July 7, 1966 in accordance with the Order No. 38 of the General Directorate of Forestry in the Council of Ministers of the BSSR on the territory of 4 forestries of Smorgon Forestry (Kemelishki, Vorniany, Mikhalishki and Ostrovets) and together with the forest funds belonging to the collective farms and state farms.
On the grounds of the Order No. 5 of the Ministry of Forestry of the BSSR signed on January 15, 1968 on the basis of Ostrovets, Vorniany and Mikhalishki forestries was formed Gerviaty Forestry, on May 18, 1970 were added Podoltsy and Dreveniki Forestries.
In September 1973 according to the Order No. 48 of the Forestry Department of Grodno Executive Committee signed on September 18, 1973 Vorniany Forestry was renamed into Kotlovka (Kotlovskoye).
Because of considerable enlargement of the forestry territory as a result of admittance there collective farm and state farm forests as well as breaking up of Kotlovskoye, Mikhalishskoye, Ostrovetskoye and Gerviatskoye forestries on April 1, 1984 in accordance with the Order No. 10 of the Ministry of Forestry of the BSSR signed on January 30, 1984 Vorniany Forestry was formed once again. On May 7, 1991 in accordance with the Order No. 14 of the Ministry of Forestry of the Republic of Belarus signed on April 19, 1991 and aimed at improvement of forest protection from fires and unauthorized cutting downs as well as creation of more favourable conditions for population to store up and take out wood within the bounds of former Dreveniki Forestry which was determined by the forest management of 1984 Palushi Forestry was formed with the main office in the village of Palushi.
As a result of admittance of lands belonging to agricultural enterprises in 1999-2001 in accordance with the Order No. 62 of the Ministry of Forestry of the Republic of Belarus signed on March 2, 2000 Spondovskoye Forestry was formed.
At present Ostrovets Forestry includes 9 forestries and 1 woodworking shop.
